Wheel alignment

Here we are with one interesting lesson by our engineers about the wheel alignment.

What's the wheel alignment?

The angle between the wheel and the vehicle's axis, or the difference between the front borders and the back borders of the axis that is measures in the center.

Why do we need to take care of the wheel alignment?

The correct wheel alignment is part of the standard automobile maintenance and improves driving, the usage of wheels as well as the rolling.

Wheel alignment = 0

When the wheel alignment is zero the distance between front and back borders of axis wheels are the same.

Positive wheel alignment (+)

The distance between front borders of wheels and their axis is lower than the distance between the back borders.
An extreme wheel alignment causes:

  • instability of the vehicle
  • rapid usage of the border of the wheels
    •  the wrong usage ruins the border with peculiar signs (saw tooth shape or lines)
    • you can find out a positive wheel alignment by touching the tire tread inside out
  • • major fuel consumption

Negative wheel alignment (-)

The distance between the front borders is more than the distance between the back borders.
An extreme wheel alignment causes:

  • instability of the vehicle
  • rapid usage inner wheel's border
    • the wrong usage ruins the border with peculiar signs (saw tooth shape or lines)
    • you can find out a negative wheel alignment by touching the tire tread inside out
  • major fuel consumption

Of course when you work every second is important and this why FASEP created the WinLOGIC series. These tires service equipments integrates modern technologies and Italian Know-how giving you high quality wheel aligners and wheel balancers.

Tire label

From November 1st 2012, the European Community introduces the tire label, created to help consumers to know the energetic efficiency of tires, as well as other important tires' characteristics as rolling resistance, wet grip and noise emission.

Each tyre label reports information expressed in letters in a scale of 7 values going from the green A to the brown G. These labels are very similar to fridges' labels indicating the energetic classes.

Thanks to these labels end consumer could choice his tires easily not just trusting his tire-dealer, but reading the real characteristics of each tyre.

Reading the label

Rolling resistance

Classification of rolling resistance of tyre is strongly related to fuel consumption of a vehicle. A set of tyre of the green class A corresponds to a minor fuel consumption and less CO2 emissions.

Wet grip

Classification of wet grip indicates the absolute stopping distance when driving 80km per hour and it's related to safety.

Noise emission

Classification of noise emission is measured in decibel and expressed with a maximum of three black lines. One black line indicates a better performance.

Sport Tyre Equipments

In the last 40 years we have produced high quality products in order to satisfy our customers needs from all around the world. And some of our customers are big and famous sport companies working in motors racing.

Our wheel balancers and wheel aligners can be often found inside moving garages within the most famous motors championship.

One of those famous races is 24 Hours of Les Mans in France. Every year about 4.500 wheels need to be balanced, aligned and prepared for the challenge. All those tyres are transported with 17 trucks supplying 23 different sport teams.

One of the most important thing during races is speed. technicians have to prepare as many wheels as they can in the less time possible. Just think that the average time to prepare a wheel for the race is about 10 minutes, while 45 seconds is the average time to change all four wheels!

Together with speed, quality is the second important feature in racing. Wheels should be perfectly balanced and aligned.

And this why you find FASEP machines in sport racing! ;)
