Tire or Tyre?

Tire or not tyre? This is the matter!

Well, Shakespeare didn't actually say that, but it perfectly fit the situation. As a matter of fact you can use both of those words. The right spelling depends on where you are from.

TIRE is used in United States of America and in Canada. But if you are in Great Britain or in Australia, and all the other states of the Commonwealth, you use TYRE.

both words come from "attire" and between the 15th and 17th century both spellings were used with no distinction. Then tire became obsolete and tyre became the most common spelling.

In England the spelling tyre came back into use to indicate pneumatic tires in the 19th century. But most of the people continued using tire, as well as the English Times in the early 1905.

Nowadays on the Internet you can find both spellings. The rightness of tire and tyre depends from your nationality. In this blog about tyre service equipments we decided to use both since we aim to have followers worldwide, since our products are sold all around the world!
